Scientific Revelations in the Bible (8)

“He said, ‘If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord
your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to
his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any
of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord,
who heals you.’”

Exodus 15:26 |
|
“The Lord said to Moses,
‘Say to the Israelites: “Do not eat any of the fat of cattle,
sheep or goats. The
fat of an animal found dead or torn by wild animals may be used
for any other purpose, but you must not eat it…… And wherever
you live, you must not eat the blood of any bird or animal. If
anyone eats blood, that person must be cut off from his
people.”’”

Leviticus
7:22-27
|
The Mosaic Law contains explicit instructions to
Israel
as to what to eat and what not to eat. These rules, it seems, were
intended to set the Israelites apart from their neighbors, the
Canaanites, and to break any remaining ties to
Egypt
. Apart from this, we now know, they also constituted a very
healthy diet!
For example, the instructions against eating fat (Leviticus
3:17, 7:23-24) and blood (Genesis 9:4-5, Leviticus 3:17, 7:26,
17:14 and 19:26) in the Old Testament and the New Testament (in
Acts 15:29) have obvious health benefits in our culture of clogged
arteries and diseases transmitted through blood. Furthermore, we
know that only freshly killed meat is healthy, and it makes good
sense not to eat “road kill” (Leviticus 7:24, 22:8 and
Deuteronomy 14:21) and to avoid scavenger animals (Leviticus 11).
